Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Respite Inn?
The Respite Inn is a unique bed and breakfast inn offering out of home respite care to adults with developmental disabilities. Parents know their child is receiving the best level of care while at the same time developing new friendships and having fun. This gives parents a chance to attend to family matters or simply have time away from the constant care of a person who has special needs.
Nestled in a beautiful country setting surrounded by redwood and sycamore trees, this hacienda-like inn reminds one of the Spanish “Hosterias”. Every room welcomes the visitor with its own unique design. The common areas are pleasantly decorated to make our guests feel at home. The outdoor space is a haven for those who enjoy nature.
The Respite Inn awaits visitors with specially trained staff capable to respond to the individual needs of every guest.
Why the Respite Inn?
Can you imagine what it would be like to literally not have a vacation in 15 years due to the constant required care of your child who has a developmental disability? Can you imagine what it would be like to not be able to schedule a necessary surgery for yourself because you didn’t have anyone to care for your child who has downs syndrome and needed assistance with bathing, feeding, and toileting? Can you imagine what it would be like to not be able to go to a movie, see your family, or visit with friends due to taking care of your child who has autism and has behavioral difficulties when around other people?
Without The Respite Inn, many families wouldn’t be able to care for their own basic needs that helps them continue to keep their child at home. Research shows that regular respite for family caregivers prevents stress and illness and helps them continue to be caregivers a longer period of time overall. For guests who use The Respite Inn, it gives them a chance to have their own vacation away from their caregivers and at the same time participate in fun activities while developing new friendships with peers.
Who can stay at the Respite Inn?
